The cool part about going to school in Daytona Beach is the car culture. Rev your engine just because you like the way it sounds? Nobody yells at you. Everyone here understands.

Thursday nights there is a meet that the local “old Crows” always go to at a pizza joint called Giuseppe’s. However, it doesn’t matter what night of the week you will always be able to find a car meet here. The best part? There’s something for everyone. The afternoon has the old guys and their gassers, classics, and muscle.

But later tonight the imports come out to play, and it feels just like something out of The Fast and the Furious. I’ll post later tonight if there’s there’s a good group.

In the meantime, I’ll tell you about the classics meet. The Jag at the top is owned by a friend who merely goes by “PW.” He was deployed to Europe in the late ‘50s and raced the Nurburgring and the like with the likes of Sir Stirling Moss and friends. He also sold bows to the Russian Olympic archery team. This man is an unknown legend, and I’ll have to write an article about him later.

Back to the cars. Anyone know what this is? Hint: Ford powered and Italian.

Funny enough, I didn’t get really into cars until I left riddle. But I would go do test rides between classes during bike week.

It’s pretty easy to find an MSF class. I also had fraternity brothers that let me borrow gear. I took it behind the big Harley dealership north of Daytona

Yea It’s not up to me though... It’s the parent’s “we’re paying for part of your college as an investment, so you can’t do anything to kill yourself until you’re using your own money”

Trust me, I would have. Especially in Florida. The insurance is less than $100 a year, even for a 20yr old “new” rider (ridden dirt bikes for years) and the gas is about a 1/5th the cost of my truck. It just makes sense.

To me, that just sounds like they don’t want you to buy a bike. You can still get the endorsement and have fun during bike week

Well, the speedway tour is always my first recommendation. They have a pretty cool private museum off-site.

Most cool things are closed on Sundays. There’s a “museum” called Hankster’s hot rods that I’d recommend other days of the week.

There’s a racing-themed bar called ‘racing’s North turn” on A1a at the beach that I’d go to for lunch.
